Day 59
More classic studio banter today. Me and Kieran found Kjersti's camera, and decided to leave her a present in the form of a barrage of hilarious photographs. Including this beaut of me playing the "lying down game" outside our main lecture theater. We were in stitches. I can't quite believe how dead I look in this!

58/365

Day 58
Another late night walk around Aberdeen, this time to a slightly dodgy tower block. Nothing like a bit of brutalist architecture to finish of a decent weekend. Even if I did think we were going to get knifed, and add to the many blood stains on the cobbles...

57/365

Day 57
Trip to Dundee to visit my adopted sister Cheryl. Started the evening with a brilliant burger and Koppaberg (omnomnom), and continued it with a bottle of Malibu and a guitar. We sang Mumford and Sons, and pissed about to other tunes on my ridiculously good playlist. Then we went to the Dundee University Union, my god that place is special! Such tunes! It was literally one of the best nights out I've had, no drama, just good music, good friends, and good times.

56/365

Day 56
Just so you get the full set of the project, here are the analytical diagrams for "Wolf House" by Mies Van der Rohe. Yeah, I know, they don't make a huge deal of sense, and they look pretty scrappy. And they were the reason we got a B/C rather than a straight B. But Neil told us how to improve it for the folio, so we'll be fine! I can't actually believe we passed, and passed quite well! All the stress was nearly worth it.

55/365

Day 55
Working working working. Here's some evidence that I don't always abandon my group, had to struggle my way through some pretty hefty sections today! The fumes from the pens didn't help either. And because of the heights of the drawing boards, I had to stand all day. Hello sore feet. And I'm shattered because I can't say no to a night out. Not even a wild night out, just something to do not in the flat. So much for "this semester will be different", eh?

54/365

Day 54
The model is starting to take shape! I've adjusted to the role as group leader quite comfortably, and the boys have been told that it's their responsibility to get it sorted. And then I went as left them at uni rather early to go to the cinema to see "Paul". Which is a pretty decent film, I mean, it's no Hot Fuzz, but it's still funny. I bet my group hate me now.

53/365

Day 53
The best moment of the week was today, when I remembered I had a voucher for 2 free standard haddock suppers at the Ashvale Fish and Chip Restaurant. Hello nicest meal I've had in a while! Yes, you could feel the grease running down your throat, but still, omnomnom. Uni is stressful at the moment. To the max. Hence the fatty meal to cheer me up.

52/365

Day 52
Casual game of bowling with the badminton club today. I had promised them I'd go out to town afterwards, but I was still suffering from Saturday night (a two day hangover is so unfair) and so I stuck with the diet cokes. This picture was taken at the only point in the night where I was leading, because from here it all went downhill pretty fast. Because they wouldn't let me have th bumpers up. Hmph.

51/365

Day 51
This is one of the many consequences of the party. Some of the folk had made me the house from "Up!" complete with balloons, but soon enough it got stamped on. Other damage included: Spongebob Pasta everywhere, Chocolate Cake everywhere, alcohol everywhere, a lost camera, keys, phone (not all mine), and a raging hangover. Full marks for a hectic party then!

50/365

Day 50
And it's finally arrived, "Katie's 18th: Get Your Geek On". From what I can remember (which isn't much) it was an ace night, everyone made a real effort with their costumes. And the group all chipped in and bought me a necklace, bracelet and camera case for the SLR, lovely thoughtful people they are! And Alex visited from Dundee, I haven't seen him since Christmas. Geez, there aren't half some stories from the party, but I suppose that's the marker of a good night.

49/365

Day 49
So, my first legal night out in town! Started of at a flat party for Kjersti's flatmate Paul, where we got to experience some interesting Romanian drinks. Then we went to Snafu, and Liquid. Not exactly exciting, but I had a decent time nonetheless! Bring on tomorrow, my 18th party!

48/365

Day 48
The day has finally arrived! I'm 18! Casual meal with the family, where the waitress worked out it was my birthday and put a candle in my cheesecake. Then I made my way to the Union, where the architecture society were having a pub quiz. Couple of glasses of wine provided us with the perfect excuse for why we were so bad! Not a bad day, not bad at all

47/365

Day 47
Sorry, I couldn't pick between two photos for today. First Jen made us a curry, and it was AMAZING. She's got some mad skills there. Then, for the third time in under a year, I went to see the one and only Frank Turner, and yet again, he pulled it out the bag. The man is a beautiful genius.
Oh, and I also had a nap today. That's basically all that happened.

46/365

Day 46
New project today. We're studying "Wolf House", which when we searched it, was the house in my little sketch above. Turns out they didn't mean that one, but they mean another one, by Mies Van Der Rohe, of which only 4 drawings survive, as it was destroyed in the second world war. And we have to make a model of it. Thanks guy, seriously.

45/365

Day 45
Studio banter recommenced today. A little bit of violence with a length of balsa wood keeps Gavin in his place. I absolutely TANKED the Design Philosophy today, the plan of getting lots of work done in the next few days to free up the weekend is going really well.

44/365

Day 44
The Grandparents descended upon my flat today, and with them they brought a bag full of food. And oh what a wonderful bag it was. Except they seem to think I like ham, which I don't. I now have 2 packets to eat. And what's with the custard? Not that I don't like custard, I do, but seriously, everytime they visit I get some. Classic Sheila and Bert.

43/365

Day 43
A very productive day today. And I'm not even being sarcastic! Bit of reflective journal, bit of presentation prep, bit of shopping, bit of tidying, and I watched 2 games of rugby. But I'd rather not discuss them, Scotland, you let me down. Apart from you Sean Lamont, you played rather fabulously.
One week until I'm dressing up as a geek and getting rather wasted. I can't wait.

42/365

Day 42
DISASTER. Today, I let two of the lecturers hold my model before the presentation. They dropped it. It shattered. All the little coils of wire you can see in the picture had been glued together in the model, with super glue, which had taken about 4 hours and resulted in me losing the ability to feel with the tips of my fingers because they were covered in the stuff. Fortunately, their guilt seemed to make them a bit kinder to us in the crit, cause it went pretty well. Semester 2 is a total success so far!

41/365

Day 41
Yep, today I gave blood for the first time ever! It was on a whim, I completely forgot it was on, and one of my mates just asked if I was still going! 2 hours sitting in the room filling in forms led to 10 minutes of actual blood giving, but I felt really good afterwards, like I might have helped save a life. I really recommend doing it. I also went on a run this morning, so I am the definition of exhausted.

40/365

Day 40
Day two of modelmaking. I was in studio for about 8 hours today, and spent the majority of it inhaling the fumes from super glue. Which may explain why I had such a good day! Niki came up from Fife and we went for lunch with Louise, and just in general, things were decent, a lot more so than yesterday.

39/365

Day 39
I spent about 4 hours today sticking lengths of wire together using super glue (which resulted in super glue all over my fingers), only to then be told it didn't really work. Cue a massive rage.
I still think it looks nice enough.

38/365

Day 38
Discussion in my kitchen today
Aimee: "Oh, Katie won't want to see your tongue piercing, she's too posh!"
Me: "What?! I'm not posh!"
Aimee: "Well, what are you making?"
Me: "Risotto"
Aimee: "Exactly..."
Touché

Talking of which, it was a mighty fine risotto. And I've saved some for my lunch tomorrow.

37/365

Day 37
Even my laptop is annoyed by how little I have actually achieved today.

36/365

Day 36
The "Katie going to the Cinema" theme to this year continued today, when the flat decided to go see "Black Swan" for Aimee's birthday. Oh. My. Lord. It is an incredibly disturbing film, hence the degree to which I freaked out when I discovered, upon returning from the cinema, that I had the most minute cut on my finger (This may might slight sense if you've seen the film). You can hardly even see it in the picture. I then remembered I most probably cut it punching something while watching Scotland lose to France in the Six Nations. And they even scored 3 tries. Scotland can win without scoring any tries, so this was super gutting. Pretty exciting day though.

35/365

Day 35
Babysat my cousins today, which meant I got steak pie and sticky toffee pudding for my dinner, a double bed to myself, and some cash for the work. And I got to watch the opening match of the 6 Nations on a big TV. I'm a rugby fiend. My cousins stay in this lovely townhouse, which is basically one of my favourite places in the city, it's so homely and classy and cute and slightly worn in an endearing way. Oh, there I go, gushing about buildings again. I suppose that's why I'm doing architecture.

34/365

Day 34
The 57'10 lectures started again today, and the guest lecturer was the architect that my group has been assigned to study! Lucky or what. I took three pages of note, I was clearly the keenest first year there. And we got cheese and wine afterwards, for free! The work is slightly starting to pile up already, I avoided it today by going on a run...
I really need to get my geek on soon.

33/365

Day 33
The meal rota started back up again today, with Gavin's culinary wonder of sausage, beans and cheese in a puff pastry pie. It was actually not too bad. Especially since he has no cooking skills. I'm totally ready for my next turn, Ikea Meatballs and gravy, I'm really pushing the boat out!

32/365

Day 32
Started our Design Studio module today, and got put into new work groups. Our first project is an abstract representation of a space in Aberdeen, and we got allocated the Uni Campus and River Valley. Which is a sweet deal because we don't have to get a bus anywhere, or put in any real effort to go check it out. We went for an afternoon wander along the banks of the Dee, down these paths I never realised existed, it was really quiet, strange when it's so close to the city. I'm pretty happy with this whole deal.
